New ISIS Award for Graduate Students

The International Society on Infant Studies (ISIS) announces a new biennial award for graduate students. The ISIS Graduate Student Paper Award will be given for the best paper by a graduate student published in Infancy. The winner will be announced and will receive a plaque at the International Conference on Infant Studies (ICIS) business meeting, with the first award given at ICIS 2012 in Minneapolis. For the first award cycle, all graduate student papers published in Infancy during 2010 (vol. 15) and 2011 (vol. 16) will be considered. Subsequent awards will be given at each ICIS meeting, with consideration of papers published in Infancy during the two preceding calendar years.

The criteria for this award are that a graduate student be first author of the paper and that the research primarily be the work of the student. The manuscript must be submitted to Infancy for peer review prior to receiving the PhD. The published paper should be of high scientific quality and must reflect the significance and innovation of the student’s work. The winner does not have to be a member of the society or attend the ICIS meeting to receive the award.

There is no formal application for the award, although first authors are encouraged to note in the cover letter when they submit their work to Infancy for peer review that the work was completed prior to the awarding of the PhD. All papers published in Infancy during the two calendar years of each award cycle will be screened for eligibility by the Editor of Infancy. The award committee will consist of the Editor and Associate Editors of the journal. Please address any questions about the Graduate Student Paper Award to the current Editor, Martha Ann Bell, at infancy@vt.edu.
