XVIII Biennial International Conference on Infant Studies

The conference will be held at the Hilton Hotel in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Hilton Hotel is connected via an enclosed skyway to a vibrant array of activities distinguishing Minneapolis as one of America’s best modern cities: the Guthrie Theater, Walker Art Center, Science Museum of Minnesota, and Minnesota Opera, all nestled in a picturesque green, urban environment. Minneapolis is considered a city that’s cool and warm, laid-back and state-of-the-art, beautiful and booming. For attendees flying into the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, the hotel is conveniently accessed via the Light Rail Transit train. Sessions will begin at 8:00 AM on Thursday and end at 4:00 PM on Saturday. Preconference sessions will be held on Wednesday, June 6.

Cancellation/Refund Policy: All requests for refunds due to cancellation must be submitted in writing by May 29, 2012. There is a $30 fee for all cancellations. We regret we cannot honor any requests for cancellation refunds after May 29, 2012. Refunds are processed 3 to 4 weeks after the meeting. Those who do not appear at the meeting, thereby canceling by default, will not be eligible to receive a refund. There is a $30 fee for returned checks.

Distinguished Early Career Contribution Award
(Deadline: March 15, 2012; Award notification: April 15, 2012)
To be eligible, nominees must be current ISIS members who received their doctorates at least four, but no more than seven, years prior to June 2012. The nominee is expected to have established a significant and independent record of publications (including in-press articles) that have advanced the understanding of human infancy. The nominating materials (self-nominations are not accepted) must be accompanied by a CV, a letter of nomination documenting the nominee’s research contributions, and reprints of at least two but no more than four of the nominee’s most significant publications. Two supporting letters from other scientists must also be sent under separate cover, before the nomination deadline. The recipient will receive funds to offset partial costs of travel to the 2012 meeting in Minneapolis.

Dissertation Award
(Deadline: March 15, 2012; Award notification: April 15, 2012)
To be eligible, a nominee’s Ph.D. degree must have been granted between April 2010 and March, 2012. Nominations must be made by a regular (non-student) member of ISIS. The nominating letter must justify the nomination and should be accompanied by the nominee’s CV and a synopsis of the dissertation, not exceeding 10 double-spaced pages of text (not counting figures, tables, and references). The recipient will receive funds to offset partial travel costs to the 2012 meeting in Minneapolis.

The conference will be an exciting mix of plenary and invited speakers, dedicated symposia, submitted symposia, constructed symposia (single papers that are grouped by research interest), and posters. We are pleased to announce the following invited speakers:

Prior to the conference (Wednesday June 6th, 10:30 AM - 6:00 PM), there will be a Festschrift in honor of Dr. Herbert Pick (University of Minnesota), a long-standing leader in the field of infant perceptual learning, especially regarding the role of vision in guiding motor learning and cognitive development.
