Posted 5/8/08. Developmental Psychology Associate at Florida Gulf Coast University. Dr. Lakshmi Gogate is seeking a postdoctoral research associate to assist in her lab projects in auditory-visual perception and word learning in full- and pre-term infants (6 months to 1 year). Responsibilities include testing of infants in a play paradigm involving mothers and their infants and in habituation procedures; training and supervision of undergraduate psychology majors in all lab activities and possible training of graduate students; general day to day lab management; and serving as liaison with staff at the Lee County Department of Health. Opportunities exist for co-authorship on publications and initiation of a project that merges with the Principal Investigator's interest. Posted 5/3/08. Postdoctoral Fellow. Laboratory of Child Development, University of Maryland. We seek a postdoctoral fellow with training in developmental psychology, social development, and an interest in gene X environment interaction to join a NIH funded project studying the role of child temperament on social behaviors. The study examines the trajectories of two different temperament types from infancy through adolescence, identifying factors that contribute to social and emotional competence in adolescence. The postdoctoral fellow's responsibilities include participating in the ongoing research, and data analysis with a goal toward study publications. Dr. Liz Brannon in The Center for Cognitive Neuroscience at Duke University is seeking a full-time research assistant to run fMRI studies with children. The job requires recruiting children, testing children in behavioral and fMRI studies, analyzing data, and supervising undergraduates. Some knowledge of cognitive development and/or cognitive neuroscience as evidenced through research experience or course work is essential. NEW YORK UNIVERSITY .Faculty at New York University are seeking two postdoctoral fellows to work on research at the Center for Research on Culture, Development and Education (CRCDE), funded by the National Science Foundation. The positions will begin in September 2008, for two years. Senior investigators include: Catherine S. Tamis-LeMonda, Diane Hughes, Niobe Way, Hirokazu Yoshikawa, Diane Ruble and Ronit Kahana Kalman. The mission of the CRCDE is to advance an understanding of the role of culture and contexts (e.g., home and school) in shaping children’s cognitive, social, and emotional development in early childhood and adolescence. Faculty, students and staff of the CRCDE are engaged in longitudinal research projects (spanning up to 8 years) on children and families from diverse ethnic groups (Chinese, Puerto Rican, Dominican, Mexican, White, and African American). The multi-method studies of the CRCDE include surveys, observations, and qualitative interviews. The Center is entering the 6th year of funding and is currently funded through 2012. Qualifications and Responsibilities. A doctorate in developmental psychology or related field is required. Knowledge of longitudinal, multivariate, multilevel analysis is required. Posted 2/19/08. University of Copenhagen, Faculty of Humanities. Postdoc Fellowship “Developmental perspectives on the self”. Center for Subjectivity Research. The Danish National Research Foundation: Center for Subjectivity Research invites applications for a two-year postdoc fellowship in the area of subjectivity research with special focus on developmental perspectives on the self. The Center for Subjectivity Research is an interdisciplinary center of excellence under the directorship of Professor Dan Zahavi. The fellowship is open to applicants coming from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds. Projects incorporating both theoretical and empirical perspectives will, other things being equal, be preferred. The concrete research plan is supposed to be finalized in collaboration with the interested parties at the Center. The Center’s research on developmental approaches to self-experience involves collaboration with Philippe Rochat from the Department of Psychology at Emory University, Atlanta, USA. During the employment the postdoc is expected to spend at least a few months at Emory. RESEARCH ASSISTANT - The Center for Autism Research (CAR) at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is seeking a full-time clinical research assistant to participate in a longitudinal study of brain and cognitive development in infants at risk for Autism. RA candidates should have a strong background in developmental psychology, neuroscience or a related field. Previous experience or knowledge of infancy/ early childhood, and developmental disorders or Autism preferred. Posted 12/24/07. Post Doctoral Opening. The University of Maryland’s Child Development Lab has an opening for a Post Doctoral Fellow beginning September, 2008. The person would work on two longitudinal data sets examining the trajectories of infant temperament across childhood and adolescence and factors that modify these trajectories. Interested candidates should have familiarity with the general area of developmental psychopathology and research in child temperament. A background or knowledge of statistical modeling techniques for longitudinal research is desirable. Posted 12/3/07. Associate/Full Professor - Biological/Genetic Processes and Child Development. Tenure track faculty position at the Associate or Full Professor level, August 2008 start date. The exploration of how individual, family and community factors influence child development has been a longstanding thrust of developmental researchers; recent streams in science have emphasized the importance of investigating how biological or genetic factors may interact with psychosocial, behavioral and/or familial processes. The high priority given to examining relations among these factors is evident in current and projected federal funding opportunities. Faculty in the Department of Family and Child Ecology are invested, with Developmental Psychology faculty, in leading a new multi-college collaborative research initiative on Biology and Human Development, including an emphasis on gene-environment interactions. Posted 10/12/07. Wright State University: The Department of Psychology seeks applicants for a tenure-track, Assistant Professor position in behavioral neuroscience to begin September 1, 2008. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Psychology or a related discipline (anticipated by 9/1/08) with training in behavioral neuroscience. Post doctoral experience is preferred. Candidates must be actively engaged in research and show promise of establishing an externally funded research program. Posted 10/6/07. The Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics (Nijmegen, the Netherlands) is offering a
two year post-doctoral position in the field of cognitive development/first language acquisition. The post is without teaching responsibilities and comes with considerable technical support and assistance for running experiments. The candidate would work within the Categories and Concepts Across Language and Culture project, which investigates variation and constraints in semantic categories across languages and the relationship between linguistic and non-linguistic representations. A focal area for the project is the linguistic encoding of the senses across the world’s languages, and current work examines whether some sensory modalities are more readily expressed in language than others (e.g., is smell more codable than color)? The candidate would be expected to contribute to the project by conducting research on perceptual categorization in children and/or on acquisition of language for different sensory modalities. There are opportunities to collaborate with members of the Acquisition group and Language & Cognition group. A background in developmental psychology or first language acquisition is essential. Experience with cross-linguistic work/fieldwork would be welcome, but is not necessary. Responsibilities include (1) visiting families of preschoolers and adolescents in their homes for interviews and videotaped parent-child, (2) visit schools to gather data from adolescents about their experiences in homes and schools, (3) to oversee various aspects of the grant, including budget, website, petty cash, and supervision of hourly employees.
