International Conference on Infant Studies - 2010
Undergraduate Travel Assistance Funds
We are extremely pleased to announce that pending final approval from NICHD in late January (2010), we have once again earmarked travel support money to promote undergraduate participation in the International Conference on Infant Studies. Indications are that we will be receiving these funds, so we are moving forward with a call for student applications. Preference in the allocation of travel-support funding will be given to undergraduates who are 1st authors on posters or papers; however, requests from other undergraduates will also be considered. Accordingly, please announce this opportunity as far and as wide as appropriate.
Determination of award recipients and amounts will be conducted by the ISIS Committee on Undergraduate Research. Applicants must be enrolled as undergraduate students at the time of the award. Criteria for the determination of awards will include: 1) the scientific merit of the research project to be presented, 2) the applicant's personal statement regarding the award’s career impact potential, 3) the financial need of the applicant, and 4) the applicant's underrepresented-group status.
Applications for travel awards should be sent in MS Word format to dixonw@etsu.edu by 5 February, 2010, and should include:
- a short essay addressing the four criteria above,
- an abstract of the poster/paper being presented,
- the applicant's contact information (including name, email & postal address, and phone number(s),
- and the name of the applicant's supervising faculty member and institution
- Ethnic and racial minorities, as well as members of various other diverse and underrepresented groups, are especially encouraged to apply.
Our allocation and disbursal of travel support money ultimately depends on NICHD, but we expect the decision to be finalized by the February 5th application deadline. We will update this page as we know more. Feel free to contact Wallace Dixon with any questions (dixonw@etsu.edu).
